In May 2016, the Mid-Valley Oral Maxillofacial & Implant
Surgery office of Salem oral/maxillofacial surgeon David Swiderski, D.D.S, M.D., was destroyed by fire.
The office is home to the largest collection in the city of
printed on aluminum photos by Salem photographer Ron Cooper.
"Printing on an aluminum sheet is a relatively new
imaging technology, and, produces the finest, most detailed and sharpest
photographic print I have ever been able to obtain. The right print on aluminum
plate is breathtakingly beautiful," Cooper said.
Most of Cooper's original prints were saved from the fire.
Along with new additions they are on display in the recently rebuilt office.
During a mid-May 2017 office reopening event the photos and
rebuilt office were celebrated and Cooper, Swiderski and staff were applauded.
Among those attending was Gerry Lewin, now 82. In the
"old days," Lewin and Cooper, now 75, were friendly Salem daily
newspaper photographer rivals. Lewin shot for the afternoon Capital Journal and Cooper for the
morning Oregon Statesman.
Catering for the event was Wild Pear.
