Whits tab Ringstad, Rowley, Giusti, Lochrie

John Rowley, Larry Ringstad, Chuck Lochrie and Mike Giusti walked off with the top football trophies last night at Whitman College's annual fall awards ceremony.

Rowley, a senior from Kenmore, Wash., was voted the team's best lineman while Ringstad, a senior from Seattle, was the recipient of the Shocker Award .

Mike Giusti, sophomore quarterback from Carnation, Wash., was voted by his teammates as the most inspirational player.

Lochrie, a freshman from Yakima's Eisenhower High, was tabbed the most improved gridder.

Tim Marsh, the college's publicist, presented the team with the Shocker cup donated by an anonymous Whitman booster to remember Whits' stunning, 18-9 upset of nationally ranked Linfield.

Soccer awards went to Hakan Taljemark, best offensive player; goalie Jeff Walker, best defense; Kerry Lamus, Carl Edwards and Jeff Akeson, most improved, and Kevin Scribner, most inspirational.

There will be no presentation of the Niles Trophy, a major football award, this season, Coach Roy Thompson announced.
