"Coach Roy Thompson’s squad had outplayed 9 straight opponents. The team of 24 seniors had made the school proud. An 8-1 season was good enough for second in the strong Metro League. Definitely a season to remember."

"Much of the credit for this year’s brilliant football season was earned by building upon previous coach Roy Thompson’s fundamentals formed from the past 3 seasons utilizing the team concept and teamwork. Coach Thompson was a man of integrity and had the ability to get the best out of each of his players. His strength of character molded these young student athletes into the men they are today. Charismatic Coach Pete Bryant, who inherited this exceptional group of athletes during the ’58 season, added his own touch to the program. Grabbing the Metro trophy, recognized as the biggest and the state’s best of the best, was by no means a pushover. Plenty of tough opposition was found along the road that led to the state playoffs. The ability of the team to learn the use of a new offense, the single wing, and go on to take the trophy is a tribute to all involved."
